India
1. CDSCO Fast-Track Drug Testing from June 1, 2026 – Companies can start lab testing immediately after application filing, without waiting for preliminary scrutiny. CDSCO issues No Objection Certificate (NOC) immediately upon receipt if applicants submit finalized regulatory specifications aligned with pharmacopoeial standards. Updated system applies to testing across multiple government labs including Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission.
2. Revised Schedule M GMP Inspections from January 1, 2026 – CDSCO directed all States/UTs Drug Controllers to initiate inspections ensuring compliance with revised Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). New inspections effective from January 1, 2026. Extended compliance deadline for MSMEs till December 31, 2025. Monthly compliance reports must be submitted to CDSCO. Immediate inspection and action initiated for units who have not applied for extension.
3. Indian Pharmacopoeia 2026 (IP 2026) Released – Union Health Minister J P Nadda released the 10th edition of India’s official drug standards in New Delhi. Introduced 121 new monographs, taking total to 3,340, with expanded coverage of anti-tubercular, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer medicines, and iron supplements. Standards accepted in 19 Global South countries. India rose from 123rd to 8th globally in WHO safety database contributions by 2025.
4. New Drugs and Clinical Trials Amendment Rules 2026 Effective March 2026 – Ministry of Health notified amendments reducing application review period from 90 to 45 working days for new drugs and investigational new drugs (IND) for clinical trials and BA/BE studies. Transition to “Prior Intimation” system for analytical and non-clinical testing (replacing “Permission”). High-risk categories excluded: sex hormones, cytotoxic drugs, beta-lactams, biologics with live microorganisms, and narcotics.
5. Drug Testing Fees Hiked from August 2026 – India will raise government drug laboratory testing fees 2–4 times to reflect modern costs. Toxicity testing in mice now costs ₹25,000 (up from ₹800). Fees will rise 5% annually. New enhanced penalties: Minor violations ₹10,000–₹1,00,000; Major violations ₹1,00,000–₹10,00,000 + license suspension; Critical violations (counterfeit/adulteration) criminal prosecution with imprisonment up to 5 years + fines up to ₹50,00,000.

1. US Pharmaceutical Tariffs Effective July 31, 2026 – President Trump signed executive order on April 2, 2026 imposing 100% ad valorem tariff on patented pharmaceutical products and APIs. Effective July 31, 2026 for large companies, September 29, 2026 for smaller manufacturers. Default 100% rate applies to all countries not in preferential tiers (EU, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland/Liechtenstein, UK only). India, China, Singapore fall under default rate unless MFN/onshoring deal applies.
2. EU Pharmaceutical Legislation Reform Effective 2026 – EU institutions reached political agreement in December 2025 on EU Pharma Package. New legislation expected to enter force in 2026, with implementation period until 2028. Baseline protection: 8 years data protection + 1 year market protection, with extensions up to 11 years if conditions met. 3. AEMPS RECOPS Operational June 15, 2026 – On 15 June 2026, Spain’s AEMPS operationalized RECOPS (new computer application for registration of marketing of medical devices and other products). Centralized digital system for device registration and marketing authorization.
